why don't the suitors want the beggar to try the bow?

They don't believe it made sense for the beggar to try using the bow because the beggar couldn't possibly marry the queen. It would have been pointless. They saw the beggar as foolish and therefore treated him poorly. Eventually they allowed the beggar to try the bow just for laughs.
