A triangle with an area of 3 mm squared is dilated by a factor of 6. What is the area of the dilated triangle?

By definition, the area of a triangle is given by:

 A = (1/2) * (b) * (h)

 Where,

 b: base

 h: height

 The area of the original triangle is 3 mm² and is dilated by a factor of 6. We have then

 A = (1/2) * (6b) * (6h)

 A = (1/2) * (b) * (h) * (6) * (6)

 A = 3 * (6) * (6)

 A = 108 mm²

 answer

 The area of the dilated triangle is 108 mm²
