What led to Kansas becoming a location of contentious slavery and anti-slavery battle?

The state of Kansas was in a conflict during 1854. This conflict was full of series of violent actions and political confrontations between anti-slavery and pro-slavery. This conflict was called Bleeding Kansas. The main question of this "war" was to whether allow or outlaw slavery from the state.
