One kilogram is one thousand grams.

If 5 potatoes collectively weigh 1 kilogram, each potato weighs 200 grams.

    1 kg = 1000 grams; 1000 / 5 = 200

If 8 pears collectively weigh 1200 grams, each pear weighs 150 grams.

    1200 / 8 = 150

Answer:
The potatoes have a greater mass.
